Christmas Tree Care Tips

  • Water

Keep the tree hydrated with a constant supply of clean tap water. The base of the tree should always be covered with water. A tree stand that can hold at least a gallon of water is recommended.

  • Trim the trunk

Before putting the tree in water, trim about 1/2–1 inch off the bottom of the trunk. This removes hardened sap and helps the tree absorb water.

  • Avoid additives

Don't add anything to the water, such as floral preservatives, sugar, bleach, or aspirin. These additives don't improve the tree's freshness or water uptake.

  • Choose a cool location

Keep the tree away from direct sunlight and air conditioning.

  • Avoid heat sources

Keep the tree away from heaters, candles, and other heat sources that could ignite it.

  • Make a fresh cut

Before putting the tree in the stand, make a fresh cut to help the tree absorb water.
